The Navajo Nation Zoo offers exciting Guided Tours to School Students. We mostly serve schools throughout the Navajo Nation and Gallup area, but we are available to provide tours to schools anywhere. We strongly encourage teachers to call at least 5 days ahead of time to allow us to prepare.
In 2011, we have had 85 schools visit the Navajo Zoo...this totals to over 2,500 children and another 590 teachers and chapperones that toured the Zoo as a class field trip.
We had exceeded the number of students in 2012 with over 2,700 by the end June. Each class receives a one-on-one tour with one of the staff, learning lots of great information about the animals. Some of the animals receive treats to get close-up views of the animals. The porcupine, mule deer, elk, and black bears are some of the favorite animals to see up close.
In 2011, The Navajo Zoo partnered with the Navajo Nation Museum to provide an awesome educational experience for school students. Teachers may now have their students receive a guided tour of the Museum, a guided tour of the Zoo, AND students are guided through a Zoo/Museum-related Craft Project to provide hands-on learning!
Participation and feedback on this new cooperative venture with the Museum has been tremendous and we WILL BE providing this same cooperative tour for 2013! Call or email us to book your tour today....
